#1 Straight fairway over a valley with a bunder in front protecting the green which slopes towards front and sides. #10 Straight fairway with carry over Hwy 431 and a valley with a bunder in front protecting the green which slopes towards front and sides.

hole1-10.jpg

hole1-10.jpg#1 This is a straight fairway over a small valley with split bunkers in front protecting the green, which slopes towards front and sides. There are trees just to the left front of the green that will catch wayward shots. The woods to the left should not come into play from this tee. Wind will affect any shot as wind from the left (east) tends to knock the ball down due to the woods while wind from the right (west) will move it left as expected. As the north-south fairway is open with no woods impeding, any wind into you will require an extra club and sometimes two and vice versa, if the wind is with you, it will take a club less but rarely more than one club. If you're not on the green, you want to be in front of the green. The green slopes back to front and there is a fall-off at the back of the green making a chip shot very difficult. There is an alternate white tee box for #1 that is approximately 25 yards longer. If the white tee is setup here, then you have a narrow shot into the green with trees coming into play both left and right. The bunker comes into play for any shot left of the green.

#10 The change here is that the tee is beside the clubhouse and you have a carry over Hwy 431. Ensure that no cars are coming just in case you skull it. We don't want any accidents happening! The woods to the left will come into play for any hooked or pulled shots.

#2 Dogleg left with woods left of fairway. A large pine tree is in fairway at 100 yard marker. bunder surrounds front and right of green. Subtle breaks on green with slope towards left front from center of green.
#11 Straight or dogleg left fairway depending on tee setup with woods left of fairway. A large pine tree is in fairway at 100 yard marker. bunder surrounds front and right of green. Subtle breaks on green with slope towards left front from center of green.

hole2-11.jpg

hole2-11.jpg#2 This is a dogleg left fairway with deep woods on the left and a line of pines on the right that come into play for wayward shots. Your shot to the green must navigate a large pine in the middle of the fairway at the 100 yard marker and with woods to the left, a precise shot is required. Wind from the right will affect most shots whereas wind from the left is blocked by the trees except for high shots. The green is protected by two bunders, one that borders the front and a deep bunker on the left side. Don't go there! The green slopes slightly to the front left and from the front bunder towards the left. There are subtle undulations that make putting difficult. When holes are located just behind the front bunder, chipping is difficult as any shot just beyond the bunder will roll towards the back of the green. You better put some spin on the ball with this shot! Headland Country Club - Hole 2 and 11

#3 Slight dogleg left with woods to left of fairway. No bunders but ditch and water right comes into play for wayward shots. Green from middle slopes to back left, back right and front right. #12 Straight fairway with woods to left of fairway. No bunders but ditch and water right comes into play for wayward shots. Green from middle slopes to back left, back right and front right.

hole3-12.jpg

hole3-12.jpg#3 This is a slight dogleg left with a line of pines to the right and deep woods to the left of fairway. The fairway becomes fairly straight from about 150 yards but the trees left will catch any pulled shots. The water right may come into play for wayward shots. There is a drainage ditch to the back right of the green that will catch long shots so avoid that area. There are no bunders but the green slopes on the left side towards the back and on the right side towards the front-right and back-right. If the greens are dry, approach shots will roll towards the back.

#12 The fairway is fairly straight with a line of trees to the right and deep woods to the left but it is driveable for the very long hitters. Stay away from the woods on the left as it is difficult to make par from there.

#4 Tee shot over water onto very slight dogleg left until 150 yard market where fairway has a 90 degree dogleg left with green protected by two large trees left. No bunders. Fairway slopes towards left front and right from center ridge.
#13 Severe dogleg left with green protected by two large trees left. No bunders. Fairway slopes towards left front and right from center ridge.

hole4-13.jpg

hole4-13.jpg#4 The tee shot is over water but it doesn't really come into play. However, there are trees just beyond the water to the left and right that must be threaded. The fairway is straight until about 150 yards out where the fairway doglegs over 90 degrees to the left towards the green. There are two trees towards the front left that protects the green. There are out-of-bound markers to the right of the green. The green slopes from a hogback towards the front left and the right. Any shot long will require a delicate chip to get close. You want to be below the hole as putting above the hole is tricky. There is an alternate tee placement beyond the water that shortens the hole by about 80 yards. Trees right come into play as well as the sweetgum in the fairway left.

#13 The fairway is a severe dogleg left with a sweetgum in the left side of the fairway. You must go over or around this tree as it definitely comes into play. Play from 150 yards in is the same as #4.

#5 Straight fairway with out-of-bounds left. Bunkers protect green on left side and right front. Green slopes to all sides from middle. #14 Straight fairway with out-of-bounds left. Bunkers protect green on left side and right front. Green slopes to all sides from middle.

hole5-14.jpg

hole5-14.jpg#5 This is a very straight fairway but any pulled or hooked shot will be in danger as there is out-of-bounds on the left along the entire fairway. There is a line of pines on the right side of the fairway that will catch wayward shots. Halfway to the green to the left are a few trees which could catch any pulled drives that don't make the out-of-bounds. Bunkers protect the green on the left side and the right front of the green. There is out-of-bounds behind the green but it should not come into play unless you are really, really long on your approach shot. The green slopes to all sides from the middle. You want to be below the hole as any shot above the hole requires a delicate putt to keep it from rolling off the green.

#14 The fairway is straight with trees to the immediate right and to the left of #5 tee that comes into play. There is an alternate tee halfway to #5 tee which is about 30 yards shorter.

#6 Straight fairway with out-of-bounds left. Bunkers on left front and right front with out-of-bounds to back of green. Green slopes towards front left and front right. #15 Straight or dogleg fairway right depending on tee with out-of-bounds left. Bunkers on left front and right front with out-of-bounds to back of green. Green slopes towards front left and front right.

hole6-15.jpg

hole6-15.jpg#6 The fairway is straight with out-of-bounds along the left side inside the roadway. A pine just to the right next to the alternate tee does come into play. Trees left and right can catch wayward tee shots. There are bunkers on the left front and right front of the green. There is out-of-bounds right behind the green which will catch long approach shots. The front half of the green slopes towards the front left and front right from a slight ridge in the middle. The back of the green is fairly flat with only a slight slope towards the front. If the tee is behind the right bunker, be sure to be below the hole as it is really quick putting downhill. There is an alternate tee which is used for both #6 and #15 tee. It is straight and is 40 yards shorter for #6 and 10 yards shorter for #15.

#15 This fairway is a dogleg right with trees that come into play both right and left. Here you need to hit a high fade over the dogwood at the 150 yard marker.

#7 Straight fairway with out-of-bounds right. bunkers on left and front with out-of-bounds behind green. Green slopes towards front left and front right. #16 Straight fairway with out-of-bounds right. bunkers on left and front with out-of-bounds behind green. Green slopes towards front left and front right.

hole7-16.jpg

hole7-16.jpg#7 This is a straight fairway with a line of pines on the right and scattered pines on the left that will catch wayward shots. Along the right side is out-of-bounds. Beware, there is a ridge on the right side of the fairway near the green that slopes out-of-bonds. There is out-of-bounds behind the green. There is a bunker that wraps around the green from the front to the left. The green has a slight rise in the middle and slopes to the front and to the right. If the pin is on the front, be below it as any ball above will increase speed downhill.

#16 As #16 uses the same tee box, the setup is the same except for the location of the tee on the tee box. If either #7 or #16 is to the highway side of the clubhouse, the trees on the right definitely come into play and requires a slight fade.

#8 Straight fairway with out-of-bounds right. No bunders on left but out-of-bounds behind green. Green slopes towards all sides with subtle breaks. #17 Straight fairway with out-of-bounds right. No bunders on left but out-of-bounds behind green. Green slopes towards all sides with subtle breaks.

hole8-17.jpg

hole8-17.jpg#8 This is a straight fairway with a line of trees both left and right that will catch wayward shots. Along the right side is out-of-bounds as well as behind the green. There are no bunkers but this might be the most difficult green to putt on the course. It slopes from the back middle of the green to all sides. Determining the putting line is very difficult. For a very short par 3, this hole was played to a 3.5 average for the 'championship' flight for the 1996 Headland Invitational Classic and the weather was great! It looks so easy but don't be fooled. This is a tough little hole!

#17 As #17 uses the same tee box, the setup is the same except for that #17 is usually 10-15 yards longer.

#9 Dogleg left fairway with out-of-bounds left and right. You must play to right of telephone pole to left corner of dogleg. bunkers on left and right front. Out-of-bounds behind green and to right. Green slopes towards left front and front between bunkers.
#18 Dogleg left fairway with out-of-bounds left and right. You must play to right of telephone pole to left corner of dogleg. bunkers on left and right front. Out-of-bounds behind green and to right. Green slopes towards left front and front between bunkers.

hole9-18.jpg

hole9-18.jpg#9 This fairway is a dogleg left with a generous driving area. There is out-of-bounds to the right which should not come into play unless you really slice it. When marked, there is out-of-bounds to the left at the driving range. There is a telephone phone at the dogleg that must be played to the right of it. Anything left is out-of-bounds. There are bunkers to the front on both the left and right side. There is out-of-bounds behind the green and to the right of the green. The green slopes towards the left front and to the front between the bunkers.

#18 This is the same setup as #9 but the tee is about 60 yards longer. The out-of-bounds to the right comes into play a little bit more with the drive but only if you severely slice it or shank it (sorry, for saying that word)!
